Measured in tons per square inch or Kg per mm squared, the tensile strength of a material is the maximum amount of tensile stress that it can be subjected to before failure.
Available in various formats (See Commercial Pattern, Ordinary Heart Shaped, Reeving & Solid), Thimbles provide protection for and form the eye terminations on wire rope slings and assemblies.
A Metric Tonne is equal to 2204 lbs
An Imperial Ton is equal to 2240 lbs or 1016 Kgs
A U.S. Ton (Short) is equal to 2000 lbs or 909 Kgs
In most instances eyebolts are fitted to the top of the component being lifted and reductions in the eyebolt’s capacity are made to take into account the angles created by the use of multi-leg slings. However, sometimes they are screwed into the side of the component being lifted and this is referred to as trunnion lifting where the working load limits of the eyebolts are reduced significantly as follows: Collared Eyebolts – maximum load at 90° to axis are rated at no more than 25% of the marked SWL & Eyebolts with Links - maximum load at 90° to axis are rated at no more than 63% of the marked SWL.
