One of the more unusual slinging arrangements for single leg strops, the Halshed Hitch, not dissimilar to a choke hitch increases the lifting capacity of the sling by an incredible 180% i.e. a 10t Strop can be configured to lift 28t. This is done by forming the sling into a “u” shape under the load and by lifting each end of the sling up and then passing the two eyes together through the “U” and up onto the crane hook or lifting device.
Grab Hooks are designed to snatch onto the chain laterally and are used primarily in load binding applications and are also becoming a cost effective way of shortening chain slings providing they are rated correctly and have wings either side of the clevis to fully support the chain to avoid any transverse or shear loadings on the chain link.
